Swedish Society for Nature Conservation in Västerbotten

Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC) is a non-profit environmental organisation with the power to bring about change. We spread knowledge, chart environmental threats, propose solutions and influence politicians and authorities, both nationally and internationally. Under democratic forms, we work with around 40 organisations in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe, and also participates in various networks globally and within the EU.

With local knowledge of Västerbotten's fantastic nature and environment, SSNC Västerbotten works to engage, shape opinions, educate and influence - all related to our local nature but also to the global climate crisis. SSNC operates throughout the country in the form of local associations, and you can find Västerbotten's local associations HERE.

There are a total of 270 local associations, almost one in each municipality. These local associations are independent and engaged in their own various activities, such as courses, excursions, debates and so on. They often seek to influence local environmental efforts in their municipalities. The local associations decide upon their own activities, and their members elect representatives to the local association board at a general meeting.

SSNC has 24 county associations, one of which is in Västerbotten. They work with county-wide environmental issues, such as serving as an advisory body during road construction or organising courses and training. The board of a county association is elected by delegates from the local associations in the county. At the county general meetings, each local association is able to present proposals for future activities. Learn more about your local board for Västerbotten HERE.
